And Everything was Alright | # 1

I’ve been mentally building this blog for months and months…had gotten as far as securing a blog name, choosing a layout, drafting a few test posts to see how it would look…and then went back to thinking about it a whole lot more than working on it. I think I had subconsciously decided that this would be something I focus on “after the New Year”…you know how that goes. Then – quite suddenly – this morning I became another statistic in the great wide corporate world. My cushy, work-from-home, very well-paid job has been eliminated. I wasn’t especially surprised – I’ve been with this company for 15 years, and I know how things work. I’ve totally seen that my current position was dispensable – it’s one of those that just sort of happens in corporations. At the time (about 18 months ago) that it was created, someone somewhere thought that it was critical, and they thought that I was the gal to do it. So I did it…and continued doing it…and now someone else, somewhere else, realized that we need to cut costs (as we always do at the end of the year) and the dart landed on me.

Thanks to that great corporate machine, I do have 30 weeks of severance coming my way, which is awesome. I’ll take it easy through the holidays (I think), and no one is hiring at the end of the year, anyway. Otherwise…I’m not sure what I’ll do. Clearly, I’ll need work and a steady paycheck…and I’d like to think that this job elimination is actually a wonderful opportunity for me to do something awesome and fun and that I’m passionate about…I just have to figure out what that is.

In the meantime, I guess there’s no reason to sit on this blog anymore. 🙂 I have 2 more weeks of work before my elimination becomes effective, but then…it’s a new life, I suppose. Weird.

My to-do list, which will remain on the home page, upper right, is still the same for now. It could totally change, expand, decrease…who knows. What I do know, if you wanna look at it this way, is that I’ve been given the gift of time. 🙂 So I’mma see what I can do with that. Fingers crossed!

For now – here’s a precious and yummy gift idea that I totally want to try!
